the affectionate physical contact meme

you love spending time with your significant other. but sometimes, just "spending time" with him/her isn't enough. you need to have your hands on each other every now and then.

➝ post your character below, with your character's name and series in the subject.

➝ tag other people, using an rng with range 1-8 to roll a scenario.

➝ roll as many times as you want, play out whatever you want

one; hugging. you just want to give your loved one a warm embrace. be it out of happiness, to comfort them while they're down, or just to give them something warm to latch onto, you just want to wrap your arms around them.

two; kissing.
whether it's a peck on the cheek or a deep kiss, a kiss good-bye or a romantic kiss, you find yourself compelled to kiss the other person! be as tender or as passionate as you so choose.

three; holding hands.
it's a simple gesture, really -- to reach out and take someone's hand. but that one simple gesture can convey any number of sentiments. what the sentiment is, is up to you, but you find yourself reaching out to take your significant other's hand.

four; carrying.
is your loved one hurt and needs a lift? do they want a piggyback ride? or do you just want to spare them the effort of walking? whatever the reason, you're now itching to pick up your partner and carry them to their destination.

five; i love you.
you've said it before or maybe you haven't but now you have to say it again or for the first time.

six; dancing.
kick up the music, because it's time to dance! but no lone dancing allowed -- you need to have a partner! you can do whatever dance strikes your fancy. personally, i recommend the slow dance, but you can do whatever you want!

seven; massaging.
did your significant other have a rough day? did they get hurt? or do you just feel like doing something really nice for them? whatever it is, you're giving them a nice massage now. they'll feel wonderful in no time!

eight; flirting.
the easiest way to break the ice or maybe you're just an overly flirty person.

nine; cuddling.
sometimes there's just no better feeling than curling up next to each other on a warm sofa. hold each other, lie next to each other, fall asleep on each other -- it's all good here.

ten; wild card!
reroll, pick an option, or come up with something else!

[ she waits, ready for the moment he pulls away - either to usher him or console phillip, whichever comes first - when she notices the way he looks down at their son. thoughtful, yes, but something else. like sand falling through an hour glass, alexander's eyes move with each passing second, thinking and creating and doing this she is sure she will never understand.

but when he does speak up, his voice is quiet, contemplative, and she's struck with the humbling notion that these are thoughts only she is privy to. thoughts alexander has on his own. she lets alexander shrug her off, but keeps a watch on him, confused and unsure up until the moment he pulls phillip up into his arms.

to bed melts whatever resolve she might have had, a small smile pulling at her cheeks when alexander offers her that smile. ]

To bed, then. [ with a nod, and then she steps in behind him to follow them back to their bedroom, phillip in tow. ]

[ it's just... bizarre, really, that his life has wound up this way. it's all fallen into place so neatly, so delicately. the war is over. they've won. he's helping craft the constitution (he was named to the constitutional convention), he's finally settled himself into a position where people know his name. alexander hamilton means something, now, and that is such a wondrous thing that sometimes he forgets that he's still just... well. just alex. and sometimes, it is nice to be normal, and to be just alex.

not often. but sometimes. like now. ]

I'm sorry I woke you up.

[ it's said after a moment of quiet, as they make their way back to their bedroom, gingerly adjusting phillip in his arms. he knows it can be difficult for her to sleep without him there, and he feels guilty over it -- but there is so much to do, and he knows that eliza understands that, deep down. even if she argues. fights him. forces him to take a break. still, though, while he's perfectly content to not sleep for days on end, he doesn't want to wish the same upon eliza. ]

I was distracted reading Macbeth -- I meant to put it down after the first act, but I needed to clear my mind... I have to meet with the General in the morning, he wants to talk to me about what comes next... and I was writing, but I stopped to come to bed, and I thought reading would help. And it did -- I just didn't think it would take three hours.

[ 1782. the birth of a new nation. alexander is tired, but his brain is buzzing. there's so much more to come next -- ]

It's hard to believe the war has nearly been over for a year.

[ but that's the funniest part about it, isn't it? because alexander hamilton has never been just alex. not since the moment eliza laid her eyes on him and her life was changed. it was never just alex, because it was always alexander. her alexander. that boy is mine.

and now it's alexander hamilton. now it's alexander and elizabeth hamilton. now it's alexander and elizabeth and phillip hamilton, the hamilton family, their family. and it's enough, for her, to have these moments walking back down the hallway together. she wants to reach for his elbow, his hand, but she looks over and sees phillip's peaceful, sleeping face, and eliza is just as content. ]

It's alright. [ she runs her hand along his upper arm, reassuring, because she does struggle to sleep when he isn't there. and they do argue often about it. but it's something she's come to expect - the arguing, the repetition - and while she would always rather he actually slept, it's not as though she doesn't know how important his work really is.

and then he starts talking (whispering, really, phillip still sleeping quietly in his arms) and eliza just smiles, leading him back into their bedroom and walking over to her side of the bed, reaching out so that he can hand her phillip while he gets in himself. ]

It over, and we won. [ he won, they won, and finally they are free. free to create, to build, to settle, to live. she is immensely proud of alexander, proud to be his wife, to be the one who was able to put that look on his face.

but eliza, for as much as she dreams and knows and understands, she also knows that alexander is only human, and needs to sleep. and maybe that last page of macbeth can wait for the morning. maybe that last page of notes can hold on one more day. ]

And now we get to raise our child in this new country.

[ he seems a bit reluctant to hand phillip over, but he surrenders with a sigh -- almost absurdly gentle, in how alexander cradles his son's head, with a particular concern until he is safely in eliza's arms. he's lost in thought, for a moment -- dwelling on that line of thought, this new country, and finally alexander offers eliza a tired grin.

he's exhausted, but he has that light in his eyes. full of ideas, and hope, and determination. they won. they won. and more than that, alexander survived, and he was able to meet his son. to get to know him. to raise him, and be with eliza. and while alexander is not without scars, or damage from the battles -- not without flinching or struggling through the day or depression -- he's still alexander.

he can do this. and once he settles himself into bed, he immediately reaches out for phillip again -- but eliza, too, immediately shifting so she can tuck herself right next to him ]

Eliza Hamilton.

[ it's said quietly, watching her slide into bed next to him, with that look -- the one where he's still amazed that she's here, with him, and she chose him, of all people. ]

You are the best of all women. No one else could possibly compare to you.

[ he pauses ]

Just in case you needed reminding.

[ she watches him hesitate, smiling a bit bigger as it happens. it's more than just a bit adorable, really, but she keeps her arms outstretched, ready to comment if necessary. it's not, thankfully, as alexander gently hands their son over to her open arms, alexander's hands almost more careful than before. she settles back in bed, settling phillip against her chest where he settles easily, familiar.

it's amazing how well he sleeps - she thinks - and thanks god for another of their little blessings. smiles on their family, this house, this life. she looks up just in time to see alexander grinning at her, and in a moment she is suddenly so warm. it's moments like this that remind eliza just what all of this is worth.

for as much as she watches her husband stress, and worry, and work - for as much as they give to history around them - if she can have this, that would be enough.

and then alexander is settling back into bed, and she is immediately leaning over to set their child back in his arms. it's when he shifts to let her into the space at his side that she pulls the shawl off her shoulders, sliding in up against his side and setting her head on his shoulder.

her name has her looking up at him, a bit tired but happy, comfortable, and she sees that amazement reflected back at her. he continues, and she pauses, confused, right up until he says just in case. the smile that breaks out across her face is unbridled, fond, loving, as she shifts to lean up and kiss him. ]

Alexander Hamilton. [ she says gently, whispered against his lips, before she pulls away to look back down at phillip for a moment - just to make sure her movement didn't stir him. when she's content he's still sleeping, she looks back up at alexander, setting a hand on his chest. ]

You are everything I ever wanted in a husband, and more. [ she's not nearly as eloquent as alexander, but he knows that much about her. knows that while her words might not be nearly as poetic and elegant, they are honest. they are everything. ] I could not imagine myself anywhere but right here, in this moment, with you.

[ it's not often that he's struck without words, and it hardly ever happens around eliza. no, eliza inspires him to talk more, and inspires him to write poetry, and write her endless love letters throughout the day in order to ensure that she knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he loves her. but it's in quiet moments like these, being told this, that he can't help but watch her in a quiet sort of shock, if only for a moment.

home. family. stability. quiet. calm. all of these things are foreign, but here is eliza, who honestly couldn't care less if they were poor or rich, so long as she had him. that amount of love and faith is daunting, sometimes -- what if he lets her down, or hurts her. but he had promised that he would never, and alexander intends to keep that promise. ]

My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; the more I give to thee... the more I have, for both are infinite.

[ it's murmured, quietly, absently -- a remembered verse, from a shakespeare play he devoured and discarded a few days ago, as he rests his head against hers, his throat tight. but alexander pauses before he huffs a soft laugh to himself. ]

You're too good for this world, Eliza. [ it's soft, but no less fond, as he allows phillip to curl his tiny fingers around his own again ] I may have survived a war, and written a dozen treatises, but you're the one who created a life. Look at him. [ soft, gentle ] He's perfect, and you created that.

[ that, truly, is a miraculous thing ]

[ it does hardly ever happen around her, to the point she's not quite sure what it is she's seeing as his mouth closes and he falls a bit silent. part of her wishes she had lit a candle, some kind of light, so she could be a better idea of what is going on in that incredible brain of his.

but he just stares, and she can feel the attention he's giving her, a kind of silent attention that almost makes her worry. because it's alexander, and silence is rarely, if ever, taken by choice. but right as she opens her mouth to ask if something is wrong, phillip coos a bit in his sleep, immediately dissolving whatever she had been building.

eliza pauses at the quote he recites, recognizing it from her own education, a play she had read years prior with her sisters, running around each other in their home. she closes her eyes for a moment, enjoying the warmth of his body finally next to hers, the beating of his heart she can still nearly hear. ]

A thousand times the worse, to want thy light. Love goes toward love, as schoolboys from their books... [ whispered in response. romeo and juliet had been a favorite play of hers (angelica had gravitated towards the tragedies or political dramas, peggy to the comedies. but eliza remembers reciting the words to her mirror, young and unsure of what they had really meant.

like merely falling in love with alexander had given her access to a wealth of information she hadn't been privy to before.

her eyes open at his soft laugh, looking up to see him smiling, staring down at their son. she laughs a bit herself, her hand on his chest bunching a bit in the fabric. ]
I'm just happy to do half the good you do. [ but then she turns back to phillip, watching his chest rise and fall under the blanket, before she sighs. ]

You definitely did more of that.

[ quietly, pressing his lips against eliza's hair as he gently adjusts philip in his blankets, inhaling instinctively as philip squirms and blinks himself awake -- sleepy, not too bothered by the movement, but the infant's eyes darting around for a moment before catching sight of his parents. and then promptly yawning and going back to sleep once he's assured that he's fine.

upon hearing no crying or discomfort, alexander exhales. quiet. contemplative. watching philip shift comfortably, his fingers still curling around alexander's own. his throat tightens. his son. meeting him for the first time, waiting anxiously, pacing outside of the room, being an absolute terror to the nurses. and when philip was born, he cried, and alexander's heart immediately seized, and then broke, because was he in pain? did something go wrong?

but eliza (exhausted, pale, beautiful eliza) had simply told alexander that philip was greeting the world, and alexander was handed his son, who blinked up at him with beautiful blue eyes, and alexander hamilton (the decorated veteran, newly appointed delegate to new york, war hero, right hand man to george washington) had promptly fallen apart into shuddered sobs, and eliza had been convinced their child had a defect, when in actuality, alexander was just overcome with love.

love. it's not even as simple as love. he is complete, now, a hole that he didn't know he had is now filled, and alexander is silent with that thought -- a warm feeling in his chest, where eliza's fingers are gently curled into his shirt -- and he finally speaks quietly: ]

He is the greatest work I have ever created.

[ the tiny little infant in his arms, who looks content to sleep for a rare few hours, is a work of art, and nothing alexander writes, or says, or molds, will ever top that. ]

But I couldn't have done it without you. I couldn't have done any of this without you.

[ she looks back up at him for just long enough to smile, tilting her face back down when he presses a kiss to the top of her head. her body is getting heavy, returning back to the bed very much returning her back to sleep. but her attention shifts, her eyes lighting up the moment phillip squirms.

eliza moves her hand slowly, running her finger along phillip's cheek. is eyes move from her to alexander, as if needing to doublecheck that they're both there, before settling back into his father's arms. eliza has moments like this where she is absolutely floored by the simple beauty of her life, of this moment.

alexander exhales, and she looks back up to him, watches the thoughts move across his face without being able to tell what they're saying, what they mean. she wishes, even now, that she could be truly privy to it - but knows that maybe, that isn't somewhere she needs to be. she does settle right back into his side, her hand back on his chest, feeling his heartbeat, listening to him relaxing.

and then there are his words - beautiful, poetic, honest - that has her chest swelling. the greatest work. she wonders, briefly, about if now is the time. if she should say something. but she is so warm and so comfortable and so in love. which is why, after a moment of silence, she responds - a whisper of her own, her eyes still on phillip. ]

I don't think the country stands up to any kind of excellence in the face of him.

[ it's said absently, not really putting a lot of stock into what eliza just said, not thinking about it past the words themselves. gently squeezing philip, running his thumb over philip's fingers again. and now that alexander is thinking about the country -- ]

There's going to be an entire new generation, born in this country. True Americans. Not colonists... Americans. They're going to inherit a new country and they don't even know it yet. [ it's said in a hushed whisper, amazed at the idea ] They have absolutely no idea what their parents did, and how amazing it is, and how the great American Experiment actually worked. It's this big new world, and he's just sleeping through it, because he --

[ and alexander's brain, as it often does, seems to recall something eliza said, and he stops abruptly, twisting to look at eliza -- philip, who protests with a soft mumble, but alexander ignores it for the moment to say -- ]

What did you just say?

[ repeat it, please, he was off on a tangent and he needs to be reminded. ]

[ she doesn't even have to hear the words that come out of alexander's mouth to know she's lost him to his words. but she finds herself listening anyway, she always finds herself listening, amazed each and every day the extent and vastness of his knowledge.

he has these thoughts so easily, so simply, ideas that can raze empires and inspire armies. it's mesmerizing, more often than not, how easy that all comes to him and how large it really is. but this time, her listening comes with a wait. moments that she is aware he will come back to her, to her own words, and the excitement in watching them pass.

their children will be the first, true, citizens of this country. their lives will set the groundwork for the first of its kind. but eliza couldn't really bring herself to care about that, while she's waiting for the moment he realizes. he sees.

and there it is, the abrupt stop, the twist that pulls them all around - enough that eliza, slowly, pulls herself to sit up a bit, the smile growing with each passing second. ]

and when he moves to bury his face in her hair, she shifts as well, setting her head on his chest, moving more over into his lap as she attends to philip, quiets him again before moving him to her own lap, just so that it's easier for her to get closer to alexander still. but after a few moments of silence pass - alexander's breathing hitching every once in awhile, so she knows why, but she says it any way. ]

but finally, he straightens, and hurriedly rubs his eyes -- half tired, half because he's certain there are tears, and he's annoyed by that -- a quick murmured apology before he clears his throat, keeping his eyes on philip. who has open eyes, now, watching his parents sleepily. awake, now, that alexander has woken him. ]

... I was thinking that I have a older brother. And we aren't close, I don't... even know where he is. Probably still home, he didn't get out, he was satisfied with staying there. [ it's said quietly to himself -- the idea of being satisfied of living in nevis is so completely foreign to him ] I was thinking that I never really thought about having a sibling being a good thing, and I was wondering whether or not my parents felt happy when they knew they were going to have me. Or if they just viewed me as another problem. [ he pauses ] I think my mother was happy. I don't think my father ever expected either of us to amount of anything.

[ which is probably why he left. but eliza had asked what he was thinking, and he's not really quite done, so he pauses there to let that sink in for a moment before continuing. ]

And then I started thinking about how close I came to not being here, and how I didn't... I cared if I lived or died, but I was willing to die for the cause, and I knew that if I did die, you would be taken care of. You would be alright, and you would find someone who could take care of you, and give you the life that you deserve. But I couldn't doom him to the same fate that I had. [ and alexander allows philip to grab at his hands, a grin escaping. ] He didn't deserve to grow up without a father, and you didn't deserve to raise him alone, and then I was thinking about how lucky I am to be alive, and to be here, and how lucky I am to have the chance to have another child, with you...

[ is that it -- ah, no, and alexander huffs a soft laugh to himself, rubbing at his eyes again. ]

-- and then I was thinking that I really needed to stop bursting into tears every damn time I feel something because it's starting to become a problem, and then you asked me the question.

[ it's the sound of it she loves so much. the way his laugh echoes, though quiet, around her chest. he's happy, so happy, and she can't stand thinking of him dealing with a time, a moment, where he wasn't. she wants to protect him from it, to bring him in close and hold him there, where all he does is smile and all he does is laugh.

eliza's eyes close at the kiss to her temple, so warm and happy herself it's a little hard to handle. and then there's that comment, and eliza is grinning a bit herself, tilting her head back to look up and watch him organize. list out. figure where to begin and how to verbalize. ]

Of course. You were fighting a war when we had Phillip. Now you have the chance to be here. With me.

[ he straights, sits up, and eliza does the same. finds herself pulling off of where she'd been half over him, turning so that she can better watch him, listen. philip's little murmur has her distracted, briefly, wiping away some of the sleep from his eyes with a fond look before alexander starts.

and he does. just as she expected he would, he talks, and she feels as though she learns so much with every single word. and some of it hurts. some of it is so painful she can't even imagine. i never really thought about having a sibling being a good thing and eliza feels like she's been punched, gut wrenching. ]

Alexander- [ she reaches out, then, tucking some of his hair behind his ear, setting her hand against his cheek. there's so much she can say - about how his mother must have felt when she had him. about the joy of holding a child in your arms really feels. but alexander isn't done, and eliza can't bring herself to interrupt him again.

even when a soft gasp, a near sob, escapes her the moment he says someone who could take care of you, and give you the life you deserve. it's not as if she didn't know, because she did - she knew that alexander was willing to do whatever it takes for their nation, for washington, and that had been half the reason she had written him in the first place. why she had begged him to send alexander home.

you deserve a chance to meet your son

she runs her thumb across his cheek, seeing him grin down at philip despite how her chest hurts. that he could think that, that he could have gone through that without her, but he laughs and rubs at his eyes again and eliza reaches up, gently grabbing his wrist with her other hand, setting it down before reaching up to wipe away the tears that have settled on his cheeks, smiling as she leans forward to kiss the corner of his eye. ]

he closes his eyes at eliza resting her forehead against his, drawing in a quiet breath at her words before he opens his eyes again, leaning forward to close the gap to kiss her gently, brushing her hair out of her face, tucking her own loose strands behind her ear with a faint smile ]

her own eyes close for a moment, right until she feels him lean forward to close the gap and kiss her. she feels herself smiling into the kiss, kissing him back for the moment she has him. she can't hold back the way her face splits into a grin when he tells her that, no matter how soft or hidden, and she looks back up to him. ]

[ but then they're moving, and eliza moves with him, the heaviness on her shoulders and chest telling her it is way beyond time for sleep. alexander shifts her around to lay down properly, and she does, feeling better about where they are now.
